OFFICE HOURS | North Carolina Sea Grant

A day in the life... During the day I work for North Carolina Sea Grant and in the evening I design and create for Morgan Alexandra. I know I am not alone in splitting my time between working and designing. I know many creatives who also split their days with corporate America and a personal creative business.

I am so grateful for my internship with North Carolina Sea Grant. I have had the opportunity to work alongside their talented communications team and many other extension specialist since my junior year of college. I have worn many, many hats throughout my internship and have been able to learn so much about collaboration, editing, publishing, public relations, managing social media and of course, North Carolina's beautiful coast!
North Carolina Sea Grant gave me an opportunity. I was a girl with an animal science major and no communications experience applying to a communications internship position. I contacted NCSG right after I decided I was not going to veterinary school. Needless to say, I was a little confused about what my next step was but working for a marine science organization sounded like a great fit! I added a journalism minor and worked hard to learn the ins and outs of the NCSG communication department and said "Yes" to anything they asked me to do.
I have had the amazing privilege of writing for North Carolina Sea Grant's Coastwatch magazine. Writing for a magazine has shown me the behind the scenes of publishing and the collaboration it takes to make a magazine. From suggesting stories, to cold-calling sources to catching grammar mistakes, I have been able to learn from my failures but also a few successes.

If you are interested, here are a few of my articles! :)

I have big dreams for Morgan Alexandra but it'll take time. Progress not perfection. I want to be intentional in all of my decisions for my business and have my heart reflected in every little thing I do! Slow and steady friends, slow and steady.
